The Community Airport Program is a component of Alberta’s Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP).

This is an interesting article about Westlock. There are very valuable lessons for YVG in the Westlock experience.

1. It is of absolute importance that municipalities work together to achieve the CAP grant. These two councils were unanimous in their voting in favour of the project.
2. It may take two years to achieve success, exactly what our Advisory Committee has been saying.
3. The Regional Airport Advisory Board was a catalyst in getting the project approved.
4. A pavement overlay at YVG is unlikely to be $2.2 million. The Westlock budget of $2.2 million is for the overlay plus new lights. The overlay portion is $1 million. Our Advisory Committee has been cautioning all along against using the $2.2 to 2.3 million estimate, as it is not what other airports have experienced in recent years.
