This is an interesting article about Westlock. There are very valuable lessons for YVG in the Westlock experience.
- It is of absolute importance that municipalities work together to achieve the CAP grant. These two councils were unanimous in their voting in favour of the project.
- It may take two years to achieve success, exactly what our Advisory Committee has been saying.
- The Regional Airport Advisory Board was a catalyst in getting the project approved.
- A pavement overlay at YVG is unlikely to be $2.2 million. The Westlock budget of $2.2 million is for the overlay plus new lights. The overlay portion is $1 million. Our Advisory Committee has been cautioning all along against using the $2.2 to 2.3 million estimate, as it is not what other airports have experienced in recent years.
