We are a voluntary group of advocates of the Vermilion Airport, residents of the Town of Vermilion or the County of Vermilion River, .

We believe the airport is highly important for the future growth and quality of life in Vermilion and surrounding communities.

• Share accurate information about the airport
• Highlight the importance of the airport to Vermilion and surrounding communities
• Rally support for the airport
• Lobby for the continued existence and future development of the airport
• Refute misinformation
• Dispel disinformation

Background

• A 2019 master plan commissioned by the town of Vermilion, revealed the need to, among other things, re-pave the runway by 2024.
• In recent years, the town has seemed reluctant to perform basic maintenance of the airport.
• Businesses currently located at the airport require the airport to continue operating and to be properly maintained.
• In March 2023 the town promoted a combined Airport Information Package & Survey.
  • Despite corrections previously submitted by the Airport Advisory committee, the survey contained significant erroneous information.
  • The information presented, the format, and the survey questions implied a foregone conclusion to downgrade or even close and redevelop the airport.
• In subsequent “Airport Engagement” public sessions, neither the council nor admin staff committed to:
  • Correct the misinformation published in the survey
  • Support the maintenance and development of the airport
